Depressed? Try Deep Rest

Let’s break down the word “depressed” into DEEP REST. If you’re feeling low vibe, this is your body screaming out for rest. Maybe you’re pushing yourself too hard at a job you don’t like and your physical body and soul is exhausted. Maybe you’re imbibing too many drugs, too much alcohol and your brain can’t make the happy chemicals you need. Maybe your diet isn’t great. The gut is intimately linked to the brain and produces the same neurotransmitters like GABA, serotonin, dopamine and glutamine through proper gut bacteria.

Maybe you’ve been down for so long that it’s become your way of being. You’ve forgotten there’s any other way, and perhaps there’s some deeper trauma that you’re having a hard time releasing. Sitting in meditation and just watching the breath flow in and out the nose, or scanning the body can still the mind enough for healing to occur. In meditation, you open yourself to the divine and the light of Source does the rest. You can also choose to send energy to certain areas of the body with your mind, intention, hands and breath. Choosing to sit in meditation even though it’s hard, even though painful thoughts and feelings arise, will help you move through the pain and turn it to power. There is no way out but through. 

If a more active style of meditation suits you, why not turn on some music and dance? Move your body, shake up your energy. Burn away which no longer serves. 

When I’m feeling down, I take long baths and give my body a chance to rest. I make sure to eat nutritious food and drink lots of water and tea. I take things SLOW. Rest, journal, meditation, and when I’m ready, practice magik.

Entering into any magik ritual should only be done from a place of integrity and love. Protect yourself with divine light, call on the elements, your guides, on whatever energies you want present. Create your own ritual to move out of your mind into your spirit. Open yourself to the larger mind of creation.

Entering into shamanic states of consciousness or trance states don’t require you to consume drugs. You can enter these states through ritual practice, dance, and breathwork. 

I experiment with magik as if it’s a science and keep track of my results, but I also practice chaos magik, which means I take magik from many different traditions and use my intuition to craft rituals and spells. Magik straight from the heart is always the most powerful.

And coming out of the ritual, I always feel more aligned with my truest self, my spiritual self, the part of me that is eternal, whole, and free.

And being one with part of me, the pain of the past soon fades away. The anxiety about the future isn’t interesting because there’s so much joy in the now.
